About The Writhing Squares

Writhing Squares are Kevin Nickles (saxophone, flute, vocals, synthesizer) and Daniel Provenzano (bass, vocals). Years after initial attempts to play their favorite prog, jazz, and punk songs as youngsters, the two moved to Philladelphia and were inspired to give it another go. Sonny Rollins showed the greatness of a minimal sax/bass/drums ensemble, so they wrote some new jams as a duo and set the drum machine running in the meantime. The constraints of a two-piece lineup introduce and in fact require some freedom - freedom to explore improvisation, rhythm, distortion, and noise.
