She is best known as the lead vocalist and songwriter for the indie folk band Big Thief. In addition to her work with the band, Lenker also has a notable solo career, with albums such as Abysskiss (2018), Songs and Instrumentals (2020), and Bright Future (2024), the latter of which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Folk Album.
