Robert James Ritchie (born January 17, 1971), known professionally as Kid Rock, is an American musician, singer, rapper, and songwriter. After establishing himself in the Detroit hip-hop scene, he achieved mainstream success with a rap rock style before later transitioning toward country rock. He is a self-taught musician who performs multiple instruments in his live band and has overseen production on most of his albums. Kid Rock began his career as a rapper and released his debut album, "Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast" (1990), on Jive Records. He followed this with independent releases, "The Polyfuze Method" (1993) and "Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp" (1996), in which his style gradually incorporated more rock elements.
