About Stone Sour

Stone Sour was an American rock band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1992 by vocalist Corey Taylor and drummer Joel Ekman. The band performed for five years before disbanding in 1997. It reunited in 2000 and remained active until entering an indefinite hiatus in 2020. Since 2015, the lineup consisted of lead vocalist Corey Taylor, rhythm guitarist Josh Rand, drummer Roy Mayorga, bassist Johny Chow, and lead guitarist Christian Martucci. Former members included Joel Ekman, Shawn Economaki, Jim Root, and earlier contributors such as Rachel Bolan (studio involvement) and temporary live and touring musicians. The band recorded demo tapes in 1993, 1994, and 1996, with Jim Root joining in 1995. After an initial hiatus beginning in 1997, during which Taylor and Root focused on Slipknot, Stone Sour reformed in 2000. After Josh Rand joined in 2001, the band recorded its self-titled debut album, "Stone Sour", released in 2002. The album reached number 46 on the Billboard 200, was certified Gold, and included the song "Bother", which appeared on the "Spider-Man" soundtrack and charted highly, along with singles "Get Inside" and "Inhale", both of which received Grammy Award nominations for Best Metal Performance in 2003 and 2004. The band toured for several months with acts including Sinch and Chevelle before going on a temporary hiatus as members returned to Slipknot activities. Stone Sour returned in 2006 with the album "Come What(ever) May", released on August 1, 2006. The album debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 after selling around 80,000 copies in its first week. During this period, drummer Joel Ekman left the band due to personal reasons involving his family and was replaced by Roy Mayorga. The album produced several successful singles, including "30/30-150", which also received a Grammy nomination, "Through Glass", which reached number one on the Mainstream Rock chart, as well as "Sillyworld", "Made of Scars", and "Zzyzx Rd.". The band toured extensively for over a year and released the live album "Live in Moscow" in 2007. The third studio album, "Audio Secrecy", was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville with producer Nick Raskulinecz and released on September 7, 2010. The band participated in major tours and festivals, including the Uproar Festival, Soundwave Festival, and headline tours such as The Avalanche Tour. During this period, bassist Shawn Economaki left the touring lineup in 2011 and was replaced by Jason Christopher for live performances. Drummer Roy Mayorga suffered a minor stroke in 2011 but later recovered, although he missed parts of touring commitments, including appearances where Mike Portnoy filled in. Stone Sour released "House of Gold & Bones, Part 1" in October 2012 and "House of Gold & Bones, Part 2" in April 2013 as a two-part concept album project accompanied by a four-part graphic novel series. The singles "Gone Sovereign", "Absolute Zero", and "Do Me a Favor" were released across both parts. During this era, Shawn Economaki departed the band in 2012 and was replaced by Rachel Bolan for studio work, while Johny Chow joined for touring duties. Guitarist Jim Root did not tour during parts of this period and later left the band, with his departure attributed to musical differences. In 2014, Stone Sour began working on a series of cover EPs. The first, "Meanwhile in Burbank...", was released in 2015 and included a cover of Metal Church’s "The Dark". The band also released "Straight Outta Burbank...", with planned additional EPs including "No Sleep Till Burbank" and previously discussed additional material, though later statements indicated the series was reduced. Stone Sour’s sixth studio album, "Hydrograd", was written and demoed in 2016 and recorded with Corey Taylor confirming a blend of heavy metal and hard rock influences. It was released worldwide on June 30, 2017. Singles included "Fabuless", "Song #3", "Taipei Person/Allah Tea", "Mercy", and later "St. Marie". The album featured Christian Martucci and Johny Chow as part of the lineup. In November 2019, the band released the live album "Hello, You Bastards: Live in Reno". On August 10, 2020, Corey Taylor announced that Stone Sour had entered an indefinite hiatus, stating that the band felt it had “run its course for now.” Full Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_Sour Studio albums Stone Sour (2002) Come What(ever) May (2006) Audio Secrecy (2010) House of Gold & Bones, Part 1 (2012) House of Gold & Bones, Part 2 (2013) Hydrograd (2017)
