About Mauro Picotto

Mauro Picotto (born 25 December 1966) is an Italian electronic music producer and DJ. He was previously a member of the Italian Euro house group R.A.F. As a solo artist, he became known for tracks including "Komodo (Save a Soul)", "Pulsar", "Iguana", and "Lizard". He has also collaborated with electronic and trance musicians such as Tiësto and Mario Più. Picotto was born in Cavour, near Turin, Italy. His family background included work as stonemasons and dancers, and his father operated a mason’s yard called CRW, a name Picotto later used as a pseudonym for a trance side project. Early in his career, he focused on developing his skills as a DJ. After winning the Walky Cup competition on Italian television, an event for DMC DJs, he met Daniele Davoli, who was promoting the Black Box single "Ride on Time". The meeting led Picotto toward record production. His early recording work included the track "We Gonna Get", produced under the name R.A.F., which achieved chart success in several European countries. Between 1992 and 1996, R.A.F. released a number of dance singles, including "We've Got to Live Together", which reached the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart. The song was co-written by Picotto along with several producers at Media Studios, including Media Records founder Gianfranco Bortolotti. Picotto and Bortolotti later collaborated on "Light My Fire", which became a Eurodance hit when remixed by Cappella. After the track was licensed to PWL Records, it reached number seven in the United Kingdom in 1994. Picotto also contributed as a writer and remixer to other Media Records projects associated with Bortolotti, including Cappella and 49ers. In 1996, Bortolotti made Picotto a partner in Media Records. Around the same period, Picotto released "Bakerloo Symphony" under his own name, which reached number one in Italy. In 1998 he released "Lizard (Gonna Get You)", which became associated with the Gatecrasher club scene and reached the top 30 of the UK Singles Chart. It was followed by "Iguana", which reached number 39, and "Komodo (Save a Soul)", which reached number 13 and became the highest-charting single of his solo career in the United Kingdom. Following the success of "Komodo (Save a Soul)", Picotto performed on the BBC television programme "Top of the Pops", becoming the first DJ to perform a live mix on the show. Other charting releases included "Communication (Somebody Answer the Phone)", produced with Mario Più, which reached the top five in the UK in 1999, and "I Feel Love", released under the CRW pseudonym, which reached number 15 in 2000. His remix of "On the Beach" by York was used as the official radio edit and contributed to the song reaching the UK top five in 2000. Picotto released the albums "The Double Album" in 2000 and "The Others" in 2002, and also produced remixes for artists including Freddie Mercury, Jimmy Somerville, Pet Shop Boys, and U2. After leaving Media Records in 2002, he founded Bakerloo Music and the label Alchemy, releasing tracks such as "New Time New Place" and the "Alchemy EP". The same year he launched the Meganite event at the Winter Music Conference in Miami. In 2005, Picotto headlined the dance stage at the BBC Radio 1 event "Big Weekend" in Sunderland. His Meganite club night has been held regularly at the Privilege nightclub in Ibiza, and several compilation albums associated with the event have been released. In May 2017, he released the album "A Call in the Club".
