About The Jacksons

The Jackson 5, later known as the Jacksons, are an American pop band formed by members of the Jackson family. The group originated in Gary, Indiana, in 1964, and initially consisted of brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael Jackson. They were managed by their father Joe Jackson. The group was among the first African American performers to gain a following across multiple musical genres. The Jackson 5 began performing in talent shows and clubs on the Chitlin' Circuit and signed with Steeltown Records in 1967, releasing their first two singles. In 1968, they left Steeltown and joined Motown Records. At Motown, they became the first group to debut with four consecutive number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart: "I Want You Back" (1969), "ABC" (1970), "The Love You Save" (1970), and "I'll Be There" (1970). During five years at Motown, they achieved seventeen Top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including six number-one hits on the Billboard R&B chart. In early 1976, the group left Motown for Epic Records, with Jermaine remaining at Motown and youngest brother Randy joining the group. They adopted the name the Jacksons and released four studio albums and one live album between 1976 and 1981, including "Destiny" (1978) and "Triumph" (1980), with singles such as "Enjoy Yourself" (1976), "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" (1978), "This Place Hotel" (1980), and "Can You Feel It" (1981). Members also pursued solo careers, most notably Michael Jackson, whose career achieved international prominence. In 1983, Jermaine reunited with the band for the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever television special. The group released the album "Victory" in 1984 and undertook an extensive tour that included songs from Michael's solo albums. After the Victory tour, Michael and Marlon left the group. The remaining four members released the album "2300 Jackson Street" in 1989, which received limited commercial success, and the group subsequently parted ways with Epic Records. The Jacksons reunited for Michael's 30th Anniversary Celebration television special in 2001. Following Michael's death in 2009, the four eldest brothers embarked on the Unity Tour in 2012 and planned additional performances for 2017. The Jackson 5 have sold over 150 million records worldwide, ranking among the best-selling music artists. In 1980, the brothers received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as the Jacksons. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Their recordings "ABC" and "I Want You Back" are included among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll, and along with "I'll Be There", have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
