About Gino Marinuzzi
A very precocious musician, he achieved his diploma at the Palermo Conservatory when he was eighteen, and in the same year presented a composition, the Requiem Mass, in honour of King Umberto I. He made his debut as a conductor at the Teatro Massimo in Catania and immediately achieved great success that enabled him to conduct all over the world, especially in South America. In 1916 he succeeded Busoni as director of the Bologna Conservatory, but left the position only two years later as he realised that it was hindering him in his career as a conductor. He conducted several opera premières, notably Puccini's La Rondine in 1917. From 1928 to 1934 he was resident conductor and artistic director of Rome Opera, which he left in order to become conductor at La Scala, where he was also appointed manager in 1944.
