About Cratophane
Based in Rennes, Cratophane are a French post-metal trio, founded in 2020 by drummer Aymeric Aubert, bassist Ronan Grall (of Huata and Brain Pyramid) and guitarist/synthesist Simon Bouin (who also records as Marc Robot). Inspired by the sprawling storytelling of Pelican and Russian Circles, Cratophane also combine zeuhl, krautrock, noise rock and avant-prog influences from Magma, Oxbow, Aluk Todolo, Blind Idiot God, Ni and Voivod to perform dynamic and ever-changing instrumental journeys. These pieces serve as soundtracks for the band's favourite science-fiction-oriented graphic artists like Jean Giraud (Moebius), Vincent Perriot, Enki Bilal and Philippe Druillet. In 2022, Cratophane self-released their eponymous debut in conjunction with zeuhl-friendly Baboon Fish Label, an LP that eventually caught the ears of I, Voidhanger Records, which issued their follow-up, Exode, three years later. Directly prior to Exode's release, Cratophane's profile was further elevated opening for Kayo Dot in Nantes, later participating in Pacé's Les Lunatiques Festival in October 2025.
