About Bona Fide

There are several bands called Bona Fide: 1) Bona Fide is minimalistic gothic folk from Denmark by Sofia Luna (vocals, guitar) and Emil Palme (guitar). Equally in love with the tradition and future potential of folk music, Bona Fide sets out to be a romantic catalyst for the epic tales of our time. The debut album ‘YIELD’ is about longing and loss, love and magic. It’s about carrying on a medieval tradition of storytelling while rewriting the classic tales of courtship and darkness, to let them become a prism for the coeval. Some of the songs, like ‘Prince of Scars’ are permeated by this archaic heritage, while others, like ‘Dalloway’ are fragmented, held together only by the morning dew. Holding hands with distantpastsandnearfuturesBonaFidestandsstill, ifonlyforamoment, andasksyoutob ehere, now. On ‘YIELD’ deep hollow guitars meet in minimalistic arrangements while Sofia Lunas enticing voice carries the listener through a raw and frail landscape made of different sonic perspectives: distant birds chirping outside of the window, close to the guitar plucking, to the sound of the very room where music was made that day. Recorded exclusively on telephones,Bona Fides sound presents the paradox of 2020 dystopia: Contemporary mythology, fear of ecological collapse and comfort of changing seasons all carefully captivated through modern day technologylike the fossils of tomorrow. 2) A long time ago (1998), in a land far away (Baltimore, MD) a funky jazz band was born. Its name? Bona Fide. Why Bona Fide? Well, anything with 'Bone' in the name can't be too bad. The band got its start when Carl Griffin, a legendary record executive who discovered Diana Krall and Evelyn 'Champagne King', called Tim Camp, former Motown songwriter, and asked for some funky jazz. Tim and Carl worked together at Motown, way back when, and now Carl needed a funky jazz band for his new record company. Tim had written a lot of funky jazz while at Motown, and played Carl some new funky jazz, and...it was funky, it was jazzy, and ...A Band Was Born. Tim enlisted a keyboard player named Joe Ercole, an incredibly talented musician and producer whose mainstay was Film, TV, and commercial work. The next recruit? Kevin Levi, AKA 'The Prophet', an equally talented sax player, whose work with the Slim Man band has been nothing short of magnificent. Add Slim Man drummer John E Coale to the mix, and you've got quite a scintillating scenario. The first Bona Fide CD 'Royal Function' was a Big Hit. A certified Hit. A Bona Fide Hit. In 2001, the single 'X Ray Hip' reached Number One on Smooth Jazz Radio...nationwide Band Members Slimman- Bass/Lead Vocals John E.
