About April Stevens
April Stevens (born Caroline LoTempio on April 29, 1929 in Niagara Falls, New York) is an American singer. Though she has been recording since she was 22, and had a few chart successes with Henri Rene's orchestra in the early 1950s, she is perhaps best known for her 1963 duet "Deep Purple" with her brother Antonino LoTempio (singing under the stage name Nino Tempo) that went to No.1 on the Billboard charts. The song won the 1964 Grammy Award for Best Rock and Roll Recording. Subsequent recordings were much better received in Europe and Great Britain than in America, although the duo managed a Top 10 follow-up to "Deep Purple" with "Whispering" (the Paul Whiteman standard) and scored a moderate hit with "All Strung Out" in 1966. She is also known for the 1959 song "Teach Me Tiger," which caused a minor uproar when it was released for its sexual suggestiveness.
