About Zoppa
To Micah Erenberg and Daniel Diamond, Zoppa is both a recently formed band and lifelong project. Micah and Daniel met each other on November 30th, 1992, the day after Micah was born, and both spent their childhood home schooling in the small prairie town of Matlock, Manitoba, where they developed a relationship that is more like that of two brothers than that of two friends. For Micah, who plays guitar in the band, music became an obsession at an early age, and has recently found himself performing at the Brandon Folk Festival, Harvest Moon Festival and Winnipeg Folk Festival Young Performers Program, as well as performing regularly around Manitoba as a solo act and with many bands including Old Man Furthermore and Little House. Daniel, who is also a member of Little House, has been a drummer for his whole life, although only really started playing in the spring of 2010. “When Dan got serious about drumming, he got real serious.” Says Micah. “I live very close to Dan and I can pretty much step out my door at any given time of the day and hear him drumming. He’s always practicing.” Over the last few months, Micah and Daniel have been rearranging Micah’s tunes to fit the addition of drums (etc) and have begun performing regularly around Manitoba. Micah and Daniel are often joined by several of their friends including master of the electric bass Corey Hawkway and mistress of the upright Natalie Borhn. Whether it be with Bohrn, Hawkway, or anyone else who comes along for the ride, Zoppa’s sound is in a continual state of change and completion, and is bound to bring new and unexpected sounds to every show. Influenced by artists such as Townes Van Zandt, Neil Young, Elliott Smith and Wilco, Zoppa has incredible chemistry, which is clearly fueled by the great friendship that lies beneath their sound. *The recordings you here on this myspace are simply "acoustic" recordings that Micah did on his own. Most of the time, these songs and many more are performed live with electric guitar, drums, bass, and several other instruments that seem to find their way into Zoppa frequently.
