About Umse
Umse (born 25 July 1983), born Christoph Umbeck, is a German rapper. Umbeck, who has been known as Umse since his school years, initially became interested in punk rock and crossover before turning to hip-hop and has been writing German-language lyrics since 1997. In 2006 he was signed to the label Tunnelblick Music. In May 2006 he released the eight-track EP "smart&weise", which was distributed exclusively online. By the end of 2008, it had been downloaded more than 20,000 times. In 2007, he won the "Myspace Most Wanted Contest", which led to a performance at the seventh MTV HipHop Open in Stuttgart on 21 July 2007, where he appeared alongside German-speaking acts such as Freundeskreis, Jan Delay, Blumentopf and Dendemann, as well as US hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan. In 2008 he toured Germany with the four-member live band Beatshop from Münster. His debut studio album "Rheinisches Blatt" was released on 12 September 2008 and was later listed by laut.de among the notable genre releases of the year. After leaving Tunnelblick Music, he released his second studio album "Allerhöchste Eisenbahn" in 2010. This was followed by the EP "Lieb es oder lass es" on 13 November 2012, which contained eight tracks. His third studio album "Wachstum" was released on 22 March 2013 via Jakarta Records. In 2014, he released his fourth studio album "Kunst für sich" on 25 July 2014. The album became his first entry into the German charts, peaking at number 36. On 15 May 2020, he released the album "Uno", a collaboration with American hip-hop producer Nottz, which reached number 40 in Germany and number 33 in Switzerland. The single "Irgendwas muss gehen", released on 27 November 2020, addresses the social and psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. On 26 March 2021, he released the single "Piano", produced by Farhot.
