About The SW4
The SW4 were a very short-lived R&B / beat band, active in South London, United Kingdom, in 1964. Fronted by lead singer, Ralph Denyer, the group had Paul Brett on guitar. Denyer would later join Blonde On Blonde, whereas Brett would later have stints in Fire, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Tintern Abbey and Elmer Gantry's Vevet Opera. The SW4 recorded four demos in Putney, including covers of Bo Diddley's 'Bo Diddley', Jimmy Reed's 'Shame, Shame, Shame' and Howlin' Wolf's 'Smokestack Lightning'. The recordings remained unreleased for decades, until some of them popped up on 1960s mod, R&B and breakbeat compilations.
