About Saicos

Los Saicos was a band, formed in 1964 in Lima, Perú. Los Saicos was the first punk garage rock band, although they were at the time described themselves as a rock & roll band. Bands that would appear years later in U.K. and U.S.A. with a very similar sound never admitted to have been influenced by the peruvians. The Saicos themselves cited The Beatles and The Ventures as their main rock influences. They released six singles (but no LP) between 1965 and 1966, all songs being originals by Flores/Carpio. Their songs were popular in radio and TV. In 1965, they released the single "Demolición" with great success and has nowadays become a peruvian punk hymn and is covered by other bands like Voz Propia and Leusemia. Rolando Carpio passed away in early 2005. In 2006, the remaining Saicos reunited in the Lince district of Lima for some commemorations but have not played together in public since 1966.
