About Pablo Held
Pablo Held (*27.12.1986) grew up in a family of musicians in Hagen. His parents brought him into contact with music from various backgrounds at an early age. At the age of four he received his first drum lessons, at the age of ten he switched to the piano and at the age of 18 he began his jazz piano studies in Cologne with John Taylor and Hubert Nuss, which he completed with distinction. Pablo attracted attention above all with the music of his trio, his large ensemble GLOW, and the collaboration with John Scofield, but is also active as a sideman in various projects of the European jazz scene. Concert tours have taken Pablo to the USA, China, Korea, England, Ireland, Colombia, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Greece, Turkey, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg... He has worked with jazz greats such as John Scofield, Chris Potter, Dave Liebman, Tom Harrell, Chris Speed, Jorge Rossy, Jim Beard and many others. Pablo Held can be heard on over 30 recordings. His own albums have been highly acclaimed by the worldwide trade press and voted "CD of the Month" in several magazines and blogs. The American magazine DOWNBEAT called the CD "The Trio Meets John Scofield" one of the best CDs of the year 2015. In spring 2018 "Investigations", the tenth album of the Pablo Held Trio, will be released on the British label Edition Records. Pablo is the recipient of the Westfalen Jazz Prize (2009), the WDR Jazz Prize (2011) and the Horst & Gretl Will Scholarship of the City of Cologne (2012). In 2013, the Pablo Held Trio received the North Rhine-Westphalia Prize and in 2014 the SWR Jazz Prize. Since 2011 Pablo Held has been a lecturer at the Institut für Musik Osnabrück and gives workshops worldwide.
