About Matteo Mancuso

Matteo Mancuso, born on 22 November 1996, is an Italian jazz and rock guitarist hailing from Palermo, Sicily. He began his guitar journey at the age of 10, playing alongside his father Vincenzo. By the age of 12, he had already taken to the stage to perform live. Mancuso went on to study classical guitar in high school and later pursued a degree in jazz guitar from the Palermo Conservatory of Music. Mancuso's career has seen remarkable highlights. In 2019, he had the opportunity to perform at NAMM in Los Angeles. In 2022, he was invited by Al Di Meola to duet with him on stage at the thirty-first edition of the Eddie Lang Jazz Festival. Additionally, Italian progressive rock band PFM chose him to replace their guitarist for a live performance at Lugano Estival Jazz. This led to the release of a double record titled "THE EVENT - Live in Lugano," featuring Mancuso's guitar work. In 2017, Mancuso founded a jazz fusion trio called "SNIPS," consisting of Salvatore Lima on drums and Riccardo Oliva on bass. SNIPS focuses on rearranging popular fusion standards and creating original compositions. The trio has performed at various events such as Musika-Expo in Rome and Musikmesse in Frankfurt. Another notable project is the Matteo Mancuso Trio, formed in 2020 with Stefano India on bass and Giuseppe Bruno on drums. The trio has made appearances at renowned festivals including the Bremen International Festival, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, Uppsala Jazz Festival in Sweden, and Spoleto Jazz Festival in Italy. Their debut album, titled "The Journey," showcases their musical prowess. Mancuso's playing style is distinctive as he favors a finger-style right hand technique, using a rest stroke with his index and middle fingers. This approach, resembling that of a classical guitarist, has earned him praise as a virtuoso. His talent has caught the attention of fellow musicians, with Tosin Abasi referring to him as "a virtuoso beyond virtuosos." As of now, Mancuso's discography includes the upcoming release of his first credited albums, with "THE EVENT - Live In Lugano Estival Jazz 2022" by PFM and "The Journey" by Matteo Mancuso Trio set to be published in 2023.
