About Matias Damásio
Matias Damásio (Benguela, May 9, 1982) is an Angolan musician who creates and performs popular and romantic music. Having grown up in Benguela, Matias Damásio leaves for Luanda looking for better living conditions. He started his career in 2000, singing at religious festivals, participating for the first time in a television contest, Estrelas no Palco. In this contest, he was among the twelve finalists. Later he participated together with the band Maravilha and João Alexandre in the Domingão Coca-Cola contest, getting second place. In 2003, Matias Damásio won À Sexta-feira, on Angola's public television playing the song Mãe querida. He also won the Luanda Song Festival and the Angolan Popular Music Festival. In October 2007, he won with the song Porquê the seventh edition of the "top dos mais queridos" (Top of the Most Dearest), promoted by Angola National Radio. In February 2016 he won the Top Radio Luanda 2015, organized in Luanda Bay. In 2016, Matias got a huge success in Portugal with the song Loucos, a collaboration with the singer of the Portuguese band HMB, Héber Marques. "Loucos" reached No. 3 of the Portuguese top of singles and 2nd place of the Portuguese Top of Download Format. By early May 2017, the music video of the song had accumulated 26 million views on YouTube. In January 2017 he won the tenth edition of the Top Radio Luanda.
