Manolis Rasoulis (Greek: Μανώλης Ρασούλης) ( 28 September 1945 - 5 March 2011) was born in Heraklion Crete and is one of the most popular Greek lyricists. He is best-known for his allegoric and humorous style in his lyrics as well with a strong political thought. In 1963, after he finished the school, he went to Athens and he studied cinema direction. In Athens started to write his first poems and lyrics. He also began to sing in small music stages of Athens' Plaka. The dictatorship's years (1967-1974) was arrested by the police and after a few months he was gone in London. He returned in Greece after the collapse of dictatorship. He started his career in discography as a singer, when his personal friend Manos Loizos (Greek: Μάνος Λοΐζος) was called him to sing at his album "Negrika" (Greek: "Νεγρικα") (1975) along with Maria Farantouri (Greek: Φαραντούρη). He also sang in Nikos Mamagakis (Greek: Νίκος Μαμαγκάκης) album "The new Erotokritus" (Greek: "Ο νέος Ερωτόκριτος"), an album that was based on Prevelakis' poems. In 1978 was rocked the boat of Greek music with the release of the album “Τhe revenge of beggarliness” (Greek: “Η εκδίκηση της γυφτιάς”) along with Nikos Ksidakis (Greek: Νίκος Ξυδάκης). Next year were released two albums in Rasoulis' lyrics that consummated his style of writing: “Ta dithen” (Greek: “Τα δήθεν”) with composer Nikos Ksidakis and "Charoulas' Songs" (Greek: Τα τραγούδια της Χαρούλας) with composer Manos Loizos and vocalist Charis Alexiou (Greek: Χάρις Αλεξίου). In '80s and '90s continued to write lyrics and poems. Last 20 years is collaborating with Greek composer Petros Vagiopoulos (Greek: Πέτρος Βαγιόπουλος). He has also released several books and articles in Greek newspapers that he slates the cultural activities in Greece. He died at the age of 66 in Thessaloniki, Greece.
