About Liam Brew
A graduate of the Tamworth Camerata and the College of Country Music, the musical bug caught Liam when he was just five years of age. After seeing two of his favourites in concert and meeting both Adam Brand & Lee Kernaghan; Liam set out to follow in their musical footsteps. Born in Sydney’s west and moving to QLD’s Sunshine Coast at age five, Liam’s family home was always filled with country music. While most young boys dream of becoming astronauts or firemen, Liam dreamt of being a V8 Supercar driver or a country singer. Liam’s dad changed history when he decided to buy his son a guitar, thinking it was the cheaper option. Fast forward 15 years to January 2009 & Liam made his musical mark when he was named the 30th Toyota Star Maker - previous winners have included Lee Kernaghan, James Blundell & Keith Urban. Continuing to cross-off highlights on his career checklist, his debut album, “Wild Heart” was released in August 2009 through Compass Bros Records with subsequent singles, “Girls With Girlfriends”, “Doghouse” & “Like I’m Famous” all enjoying chart success. “I'll never forget the first time I saw Liam Brew walk on stage; such a slight, quiet guy, I was completely unprepared for the transformation that took place when he got to the mic. Most young artists run a mile from solo acoustic performances, but Liam commanded the stage effortlessly, sang both accurately, and with real character, and established an easy rapport with the audience that I have seen artists with 20 years more experience struggle to create. Watching Liam develop his craft has been a real pleasure, his songs give you an insight into his irreverent sense of humour, and there's a gleam in his eye that is a definite hint of things to come,” James Blundell, April 2011. Radio & video chart achievements include two Top Ten video clips on The Country Music Channel, Top Ten singles on County Tracks Top 30, KIX Country’s Hot Country Top 20 Countdown (including a No.1 with “Doghouse”), 98.9 FM, and recurrent hits on Cool Country 2KA. But the sweetest accolade came when “Wild Heart” earned the Brisbane native a finalist placement in the 2010 CMAA Country Music Awards Of Australia in the “New Talent Of The Year” category. Over the last few years Liam has also been asked to join some of Australia’s finest in concert – Adam Brand, James Blundell, The Sunny Cowgirls, Lee Kernaghan, The McClymonts & Travis Collins. Opening the CMC Rocks The Hunter festival and sharing the bill with US superstars Alan Jackson, Joe Nichols & Jack Ingram plus Aussie heavyweights Kasey Chambers & Troy Cassar-Daley was truly the stuff of dreams. “Being one of the biggest country music events we’ve ever had in Australia it was an awesome opportunity to be involved and play alongside the likes of Alan Jackson, Joe Nichols & Jack Ingram,” Liam said. Performing at some of Australia’s biggest festivals including Tamworth Country Music Festival, Optus National Music Muster, Mud Bulls And Music and Urban Country Music Festival, also form part of Liam’s career milestones. “Since Liam won Star Maker, I have kept a keen eye on him and his career. I think he has all the tools you need to be a successful country artist in Australia - talent, he has his own unique style, humble and just enough cheekiness to make sure you’re always watching! After taking him out on tour with me on numerous occasions I also saw how dedicated he was. He’s not a flash in the pan, he’s here for the long run and that’s the kind of steel-will you need to make it.... and he will!" Adam Brand, March 2011 Scoring 3 nominations in the 2011 CMC Music Awards – OZ Artist Of The Year, New OZ Artist Of The Year & Music Video Of The Year (“Doghouse”) – was simply mind-blowing to the 21-year-old singer/songwriter. To be considered in the same category as some of his idols, is something Liam didn’t bank on happening any time soon. June 2013 is an important time for the V8 Supercars enthusiast. Not only will his 2nd album, “Faster” be released but he joins Toyota Star Maker alumni Travis Collins, Luke Austen and Luke Dickens for the ‘Turn The Page Tour’. The concert tour will include 20 shows across NSW and QLD with plans to extend to other states later in the year http://www.turnthepagetour.com.au/ “Faster”, the 10 track musical collection features three self-penned tracks and a duet with current Toyota Star Maker Kaylee Bell on ‘Is It Raining At Your House?’ also covered by Brad Paisley. The past 18 months were spent writing, sourcing and recording the new material which was produced with good mate Rusty Crook. Some of the finest musicians/vocalists help bring this album to life – Rusty Crook (Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin, Piano), Rudy Miranda (Drums), Scott Greenaway (Bass), Michael McGlynn (Piano, Hammond Organ, Percussion), Vaughan Jones (Piano), Tommy Grasso (Pedal Steel), Russell Allgood (Fiddle) with backing vocals by Travis Collins and Wes Hightower (George Strait & Blake Shelton). With the album ready for release, the performer reflects, “this album is such an important step in my career. It typifies who and what I am as an artist and for the first time features some of my own songs which I’m really excited about. I’m happy that I can now step aside and let the album do the talking. Hopefully people dig what we’ve done but either way I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved. It’s a diverse bunch of songs but I think it’s a great depiction of the type of stuff I grew up on and the stuff I love playing as an artist, so I hope that shows in the record when people hear it”.
