About John Grenell
John Grenell (the stage name of John Denver Hore, born in Ranfurly, Otago, on 19 July 1944; died 27 July 2022) was a New Zealand country singer and songwriter. Originally performing as John Hore, Grenell changed his stage name to John Hore Grenell before settling on John Grenell. His two first names are said to have been taken as stage name by the US singer John Denver who was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. Grenell recorded his first album for Joe Brown in 1963, and made a further 16 albums between 1963 and 1974, some of which reached gold. He was the New Zealand representative to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1966 and 1974.
