About Jenny Pope

In September 1929, Jenny Pope entered the studio at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis Tennessee to record two tracks with famed guitarist Tampa Red and 'Georgia' pianist Tom Dorsey. She returned there in February 1930 to record four more. The discs are put on the market but afterwards… nothing. Who was Jenny Pope? Some say she was the wife of a Memphis musician. No proof and especially no photo. In any case, this story is not unique in the blues discography where obscure and sometimes mythical characters rub shoulders with the most famous.
