About JANET JACKSON

Janet Damita Jo Jackson (born May 16, 1966) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and dancer. She is recognized for her contributions to pop music, including socially conscious and provocative themes in her recordings, as well as her choreography and stage performances. Her work has been influential in the development of MTV and has contributed to breaking gender and racial barriers in the music industry. Jackson’s lyrics often address social issues and personal experiences, appealing to a broad youth audience. The youngest of ten children in the Jackson family, she appeared in several television programs during the 1970s and early 1980s, including "Good Times", "Diff'rent Strokes", and "Fame". After signing with A&M Records in 1982, she achieved global recognition with her third and fourth studio albums, "Control" (1986) and "Rhythm Nation 1814" (1989). These albums contributed to crossover success in popular music, influenced the development of the new jack swing genre, and established her public image. In the 1990s, Jackson became one of the highest-paid artists in the industry, signing major music deals with Virgin Records. She starred in the film "Poetic Justice" (1993) and released the albums "Janet" (1993) and "The Velvet Rope" (1997), which helped solidify her status as a prominent figure in pop culture. Billboard ranked her the second most successful artist of the 1990s in the United States. In 2001, Jackson achieved her tenth US number-one single with "All for You", the title track from her seventh studio album. Following the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show controversy, her career experienced a decline, including a reported reduction in radio airplay and televised promotion under CBS leadership. Her eighth studio album, "Damita Jo" (2004), was affected by these circumstances. She continued to release music with the albums "20 Y.O." (2006), "Discipline" (2008), and "Unbreakable" (2015), and continued touring. Her tenth concert tour, the "Together Again Tour" (2023–2024), became the highest-grossing tour of her career. Jackson has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists. She holds the record for the most consecutive top-ten entries on the US Billboard Hot 100 by a female artist (18) and is the only artist to have seven singles from one album ("Rhythm Nation 1814") reach the top five. Billboard has ranked her among the top artists on various lists, including the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists and the Top 50 R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of the past 25 years. Her awards and honors include five Grammy Awards, eleven Billboard Music Awards, eleven American Music Awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, eight Guinness World Records entries, and her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.
