About Graveworm

Graveworm is an Italian blackened gothic metal band formed in 1992 in Brunico, South Tyrol. The band secured a recording contract with Serenades Records before releasing a demo, following a performance near their hometown. In 1997, they released their debut EP, "Eternal Winds", and promoted their first full-length album, "When Daylight's Gone", during a tour alongside Crematory, Therion, and Lake of Tears. In 1998, Graveworm released the EP "Underneath the Crescent Moon", which included a guest appearance by Sarah Jezebel Deva (known for her work with Cradle of Filth and Therion) on the track "Awake...Thy Angels of Sorrow". That same year, the band performed at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival with acts such as Children of Bodom, Cradle of Filth, and Vader. Their second studio album, "As the Angels Reach the Beauty", was completed in 1999 and supported by a European tour with Agathodaimon. The 2001 release of "Scourge of Malice" marked the band's first headlining tour, joined by Dornenreich, Vintersorg, and Darkwell. In 2002, Graveworm transitioned to the German label Nuclear Blast. Around this time, bassist Didi Schraffel left the group, and guitarist Harry Klenk was replaced by Eric Treffel, who was in turn succeeded by Eric Righi. With Righi, the band recorded the 2003 album "Engraved in Black", which included a cover of R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion". Following the album's release, guitarist Stefan Unterpertinger departed and was replaced by Lukas Flarer. Former guitarist Harry Klenk also returned, this time as bassist. In 2004, Graveworm participated in the X-Mass Festival tour alongside bands such as Destruction and Kataklysm. Drummer Martin Innerbichler took a hiatus to pursue studies and was temporarily replaced by Moritz Neuner, known for his work with Darkwell and Shadowcast. The band's fifth studio album, "(N)utopia", was released in 2005. Guitarist Lukas Flarer subsequently left and was replaced by Thomas Orgler, also known as "Stirz". In 2006, Graveworm toured North America with Kataklysm, Destruction, The Absence, and Vader. In 2007, a promotional version of their album "Collateral Defect" was leaked online prior to its official release. The album was released in Europe on May 25 through Massacre Records and in North America on June 5 through Nuclear Blast. It was produced by Andy Classen at Stage One studios in Borgentreich, Germany. "Diabolical Figures" was released on June 19, 2009, featuring guest musician Karsten Jäger. In 2011, Graveworm released the album "Fragments of Death". The following year, guitarist Thomas Orgler and keyboardist Sabine Mair left the band, and original guitarist Stefan Unterpertinger rejoined. On June 19, 2015, the band released their ninth studio album, "Ascending Hate". Their tenth studio album, "Killing Innocence", was released on April 28, 2023. Graveworm is referenced in Tony Vilgotsky's horror novel "Shepherd of the Dead".
