About Franco De Gemini
Franco De Gemini born 10th September 1928, Ferrara in the North of Italy, is a Italian musician, record producer and composer. He has the nickname "Harmonica Man" after he performed the haunting three notes (there were actually more), written by Ennio Morricone, which recur throughout the soundtrack of the classic Spaghetti Western Once Upon a Time in the West by Sergio Leone. He is indeed one of the greatest harmonica players in Italian history, but has contributed a lot more than just great harmonica playing. During his career De Gemini has played with many big names such as Francesco De Masi, Armando Trovajoli, Piero Piccioni, Nicola Piovani, Riz Ortolani, Piero Umiliani, Renato Serio, Carlo Rustichelli, Franco Micalizzi and Nico Fidenco. He has played in more than 800 movie soundtracks, including many spaghetti westerns, where his instrument could be used with greater creativity. One of the most prestigious contributions of his career is his part in the recording of the soundtrack of West Side Story, written by Leonard Bernsteinin 1961. De Gemini died on July 20, 2013.
