About Dial M

dial M began his musical career in the New York art world as a performance artist. He remembers music being one of the cultural signposts - like diners - that would bring people from all walks of life together to share a positive moment. He went out, bought a cheap guitar with a warped neck, and began to participate in that musical experience. It seemed natural that he would start to write music. The music wasn't based on the singer/songwriter tradition, but on studio production - sampling, mixing, found sounds. Early performances melded the sounds of aggressive industrial rhythms with pop culture sound bites. Performances at New York art world staples such as Franklin Furnace, the Alternative Museum, and LaMama followed. In the late 1980's, you could hear his music on WKCR-FM. Then in 1993, dial M retreated and reevaluated. For some years, he immersed himself in eastern writings, listened to music from all corners of the world, pondered the roll of music in our lives, sought greater spiritual awareness, and traveled to Mexico, France, Great Britain, and the Caribbean. At the beginning of 2000, he was ready to begin a new musical journey. Setting up a studio in his home, dial M began to write songs that spoke of redemption, love, and inner growth. His genre-bending songs blend dance, electro, hip hop, rock, and gospel elements.
