About Curved Air
Curved Air is a British progressive rock band formed in 1970, known for combining elements of classical, folk, and electronic music. The band was primarily active during the 1970s and reformed in 2008 after several periods of inactivity. The group gained attention in the 1970s for the distinctive vocals of Sonja Kristina and the violin work of Darryl Way. Kristina had previously performed in the London production of the musical "Hair." The band's sound also featured synthesizer contributions from Francis Monkman. Their debut album "Air Conditioning" (1970) includes the notable track "Vivaldi." Their second album, "Second Album" (1971), featured their only chart hit, "Back Street Luv," as well as the extended piece "Piece of Mind." The band reached what is often considered their artistic peak with "Phantasmagoria" (1972). After the release of "Air Cut" (1973), violinist and keyboardist Eddie Jobson joined the band. A later lineup included Sonja Kristina and her husband Stewart Copeland, who would go on to form The Police. This lineup produced the albums "Midnight Wire" (1975) and "Airborne" (1976). Following this period, Curved Air was largely inactive until their reunion in 2008. They released a live album, "Live Atmosphere," in 2012, featuring recordings from their recent UK tour, followed by a studio album, "North Star," in 2014. Sonja Kristina remains the only original member in the current lineup.
