Crystal Ball is a Swiss hard rock band from Lucerne, founded in the late 1990s. The group originally formed as a cover band under the name Cherry Pie and performed numerous concerts in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. In 1999 the band released its first album under the name Crystal Ball, titled “In the Beginning”. A second album, “Hard Impact”, followed in 2000. After its release the band toured with Pretty Maids and subsequently signed a recording contract with Nuclear Blast. The album “Virtual Empire” was released in 2002. In the same year Crystal Ball toured with Dokken, U.D.O., Krokus and Doro. During the tour with U.D.O. the band met Stefan Kaufmann, a former member of Accept and U.D.O., who later produced the albums “Hellvetia” and “Timewalker”. During this period Crystal Ball also toured with Axxis, Pink Cream 69 and Krokus, and undertook its first headlining tour together with Thunderstone. In 2007 the band signed a new contract with AFM Records and released its sixth studio album, “Secrets”, which was produced by Michael Bormann. After a hiatus the band returned in 2013 with the album “Dawnbreaker” and a new lead vocalist, Steven Mageney. Around the same time Crystal Ball signed with Massacre Records. Touring activities during this period included concerts with The Poodles and Krokus. In 2015 the band released the album “LifeRider”, which combines elements of traditional hard rock with modern metal. The song “Eye to Eye” features a guest appearance by Noora Louhimo of Battle Beast. The line-up was also expanded with the addition of rhythm guitarist Tony Castell, a former member of Krokus. In the same year Crystal Ball performed at several festivals, including Sion sous les étoiles and Guitare en scène, appearing alongside bands such as Scorpions, and also performed at the Brienzersee Festival with acts including Thunder. The band also collaborated with the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra for a live performance. In 2016 Crystal Ball released the album “Déjà-Voodoo” and toured Germany and Switzerland as a support act for Shakra. The following year the band appeared at the Rock the Ring festival alongside artists including Deep Purple, Krokus and Gotthard. In 2018 Crystal Ball released the album “Crystallizer”, undertook a headlining tour in Germany and performed at several festivals. During the same period the band also toured as a support act for Axel Rudi Pell. In 2019 Crystal Ball celebrated its twentieth anniversary with the release of the compilation album “2020”. The track selection was based on fan surveys and streaming data. The first disc contains earlier songs re-recorded with vocalist Steven Mageney, while the second disc features newer songs that were reinterpreted, rearranged and supplemented with additional recordings.
