About Critical Mass
Critical Mass is the name of multiple musical groups across different genres and countries. 1) Critical Mass (Poland) – A death metal band formed in 2004 in Poland. 2) Critical Mass (Netherlands) – A rave and happy hardcore group formed in 1994 in the Netherlands. The group was created by producers Ed Bout and Dave Hasselaar, initially as a live act for ID&T Records. Later, singer Ludmilla Odijk and rapper Danny Haenraets, known as MC Energy, joined the lineup. The group gained popularity in the mid-1990s with hits such as "Dancin' Together" (1995), "Burnin' Love," "Believe in the Future," and "Happy Generation" (1996). In 1997, they released "Together in Dreams," followed by "In Your Eyes" in 1999, which marked a shift towards trance music. The latter two singles were released under Byte Records but did not achieve major success. 3) Critical Mass (Canada) – A contemporary Catholic rock band founded in 1997 by David Wang. Their debut demo, "Faith Looks Up," won Best International Group and Best Modern Rock/Alternative Album at the United Catholic Music and Video Association awards. Their second album, "Completely," received Best Rock Album at the Canadian Gospel Music Association’s Covenant Awards, leading to their performance at World Youth Day 2002 in Toronto. Their subsequent albums, "Grasping for Hope in the Darkness" (2004) and "Celebrate" (2007), received award nominations. In 2009, they released "Body Language," an album inspired by Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. 4) Critical Mass (United States – Ska) – A ska band formed in 1992 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its members had previously played in bands such as The Noise, Basic Radio, JFK, Missing Link, Chill Factor, and Elephant Men. The band performed alongside acts like The Skatalites, Reel Big Fish, Save Ferris, and Less Than Jake. They won Best Ska Group at the 1998 Wammies and were nominated for Outstanding Ska Artist at the 1998 California Music Awards. 5) Critical Mass (Australia) – A progressive metal band formed in 1989 in Australia. They released their only album, "Holy Wars," in 1992 before disbanding in 1993. 6) Critical Mass (Denmark) – A progressive metal band from Aarhus, Denmark. They released their debut album, "Wasted Sentence," in 2009. 7) Critical Mass (United States – Punk Rock) – An early U.S. punk rock band from Miami. They were the first punk band from Florida to release a record, "Silver Screen" 7", in 1978. 8) Critical Mass (Russia/Georgia) – An avant-garde and experimental jazz project formed in 2013 in Moscow, Russia. The band consists of two members: Guram Machavariani (guitar) and Irakli (Kvazi) Sanadiradze (drums, percussion). Their debut album, released in 2014, gained recognition in the underground jazz scenes of Russia and Georgia.
