Céline Marie Claudette Dion (born 30 March 1968) is a Canadian singer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. She is known for her vocal range and technical proficiency and has achieved significant commercial success in both French- and English-language markets. With estimated worldwide sales exceeding 200 million records, she is among the best-selling recording artists of all time and the best-selling Canadian and French-language artist. Born in Charlemagne, Quebec, into a large family, Dion was managed from an early age by René Angélil, whom she later married. During the 1980s, she released eight French-language albums and became a prominent teen performer in Canada. She gained international attention after representing Switzerland and winning the Eurovision Song Contest 1988 with the song "Ne partez pas sans moi". She subsequently established a career in the English-language market, releasing twelve English-language studio albums. Among her most commercially successful releases are "The Colour of My Love" (1993), "Falling into You" (1996), "Let's Talk About Love" (1997) and "All the Way... A Decade of Song" (1999), all of which rank among the best-selling albums worldwide. Notable singles from her catalogue include "Beauty and the Beast", "The Power of Love", "Think Twice", "To Love You More", "Because You Loved Me", "It's All Coming Back to Me Now", "All by Myself", "I'm Your Angel", "That's the Way It Is", "I'm Alive" and "My Heart Will Go On", the theme song of the 1997 film "Titanic", which became one of the best-selling singles by a female artist. Between her English-language releases, Dion continued to record in French. The album "D'eux" (1995) became the best-selling French-language album of all time. She has also been recognised as a successful live performer. Her "Let's Talk About Love World Tour" (1998–1999) and "Taking Chances World Tour" (2008–2009) were among the highest-grossing tours of their respective decades. Her Las Vegas residency "A New Day..." (2003–2007) became the highest-grossing concert residency at the time. In 2022, she cancelled the remaining dates of her "Courage World Tour" following a diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome. Dion has received numerous awards, including five Grammy Awards and twenty Juno Awards. Seven of her albums have sold at least ten million copies worldwide, placing her among the leading female artists in terms of album sales. She has been included in rankings of prominent women and vocalists in popular music by media outlets such as VH1 and MTV. Dion is among the highest-grossing touring artists in history and has accumulated more than US$1 billion in concert revenue. She has also appeared on Forbes lists of the highest-paid female musicians. Dion has received honorary doctorates in music from Berklee College of Music and Université Laval. She has been appointed to the Order of Canada at the rank of Companion and has been awarded the Legion of Honour in France.
