About Cliff Richard

Sir Harry Rodger Webb (born 14 October 1940), known professionally as Cliff Richard, is a British singer and actor. He has sold over 21.5 million singles in the United Kingdom and, as of 2026, is the third-top-selling artist in UK singles chart history, behind the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Richard began his career as a rock and roll singer in the style of Elvis Presley and Little Richard. With his backing group, the Shadows, he was a leading figure in the British popular music scene in the late 1950s and early 1960s. His 1958 single "Move It" is often cited as Britain's first authentic rock and roll song. Richard also pursued a film career, appearing in productions including "Expresso Bongo" (1959), "The Young Ones" (1961), "Summer Holiday" (1963), and "Wonderful Life" (1964), and hosted his own BBC television show. Later in his career, his focus on Christianity influenced a softening of his musical style and occasional ventures into contemporary Christian music. Over a career spanning more than 65 years, Richard has received numerous awards and certifications, including two Ivor Novello Awards, three Brit Awards, and multiple gold and platinum discs. More than 130 of his singles, albums, and EPs have reached the UK Top 20, a record for any artist. He has had 67 UK top ten singles, the second-highest total for an artist, and holds the record—shared with Presley—for charting in the UK singles charts in each of its first six decades (1950s–2000s). He has achieved 14 UK number-one singles and is the only artist to have a number-one single in each of five consecutive decades. Richard also had four UK Christmas number-one singles, including two solo hits, "Mistletoe and Wine" and "Saviour's Day". By the late 1990s, Richard had sold over 250 million records worldwide. While he achieved only limited success in the United States, with eight Top 40 singles including "Devil Woman" and "We Don't Talk Anymore", he found success in Canada during the early 1960s and again in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with some releases certified gold and platinum. Richard has remained a prominent figure in music, film, and television in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Northern Europe, and parts of Asia. In recent years, he has divided his time between Barbados and Portugal, and in 2019 relocated to New York. Studio albums Cliff (1959) Cliff Sings (1959) Me and My Shadows (1960) Listen to Cliff!
