Drawing from an era of highly performative crooners, Broads nevertheless deliver a uniquely authentic show. Haunting, narcotic and deceptively sweet, their songs are laced with acerbic criticism of the culture from which they stem. 'Stay Connected' (2019) is the sophomore album from Broads. Self-produced, Broads have pushed their sound from their acoustic roots into a wider spectrum of colour - with hints at 60s pop, 70s folk, a little 80s new wave. Tying the album together is the duo's disarming vocals and lyricism, defying any obvious comparison. Their debut album ‘Vacancy’ (2017) was described by theMusic as ‘a mellifluous collection of songs utterly drenched in enticing melodies and harmonies... a simply gorgeous, often haunting, always sublime inaugural full-length outing’. It was feature album on both TripleRRR and PBS FM, and almost a year after its release found its way onto best-of-2017 lists, including PBS FM’s top 10 albums, and Basement Disc’s best releases.
