About As I Lay Dying

As I Lay Dying is an American metalcore band from San Diego, California, formed in 2000 by vocalist Tim Lambesis. The first complete lineup, which included drummer Jordan Mancino, was established in 2001. The band has released eight studio albums, one split album, and two compilation albums. The fourth studio album, "An Ocean Between Us," peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Top Rock chart. The band has performed at festivals including Wacken Open Air, With Full Force, Soundwave Festival, Warped Tour, Bloodstock Open Air, and Taste of Chaos. In 2007, the group received the "Ultimate Metal God" award from MTV2 during the first annual "All That Rocks" special, and was named Artist of the Year at the San Diego Music Awards in 2005, 2007, and 2008. The song "Nothing Left" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008 for Best Metal Performance. The fifth studio album, "The Powerless Rise," was released in May 2010 following a three-year writing process and received positive critical reception. The sixth studio album, "Awakened," was released on September 25, 2012. In 2014, the band went on an indefinite hiatus after Lambesis was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison for soliciting the murder of his estranged wife. During the hiatus, the remaining members formed the band Wovenwar with vocalist Shane Blay. In 2018, Lambesis reunited with guitarists Nick Hipa and Phil Sgrosso, drummer Jordan Mancino, and bassist Josh Gilbert. On June 8, 2018, the band released the single "My Own Grave," marking their first new material in six years. The seventh studio album, "Shaped by Fire," was released on September 20, 2019. Following the release, multiple lineup changes occurred: Hipa departed in 2020, while Gilbert and Mancino left in 2022 within a short time of each other, replaced by Ken Susi, Ryan Neff, and Nick Pierce, respectively. All three replacements departed in 2024, followed by Sgrosso, leaving Lambesis as the sole member. The eighth studio album, "Through Storms Ahead," was released on November 15, 2024. Studio albums Beneath the Encasing of Ashes (2001) Frail Words Collapse (2003) Shadows Are Security (2005) An Ocean Between Us (2007) The Powerless Rise (2010) Awakened (2012) Shaped by Fire (2019) Through Storms Ahead (2024)
