About Aqua

Aqua is a name shared by multiple music groups from different countries and genres. 1. Aqua is Danish-Norwegian dance-pop group formed in 1989 originally under the name Joyspeed, later renamed Aqua in 1994. They gained international fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s with hits such as "Barbie Girl." Their first three singles reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. They released two albums, "Aquarium" in 1997 and "Aquarius" in 2000, before disbanding in 2001. The group sold approximately 33 million albums and singles, making them one of the most successful Danish and Norwegian bands. Their music found chart success in countries where European pop acts typically did not, including the United States, Australia, and Japan. The single "Barbie Girl" attracted legal attention from the doll manufacturer Mattel but the lawsuit was dismissed. The band members include vocalists Lene Nystrøm Rasted and Rene Dif, keyboardist Søren Rasted, and guitarist Claus Norreen. After their split, members pursued solo careers or other music industry roles. The group reunited in 2007 for a reunion tour and released a greatest hits album in 2009 that included remastered tracks and new songs like "Back to the 80s." They released the album "Megalomania" in 2011, accompanied by singles such as "How R U Doin?," "Like A Robot," and "Playmate To Jesus," which achieved moderate success mostly in their home countries. --- 2. Aqua originated in Kassel, Germany, in 1972, emerging from members of other local groups. They released one single and one album, which are now considered rare. Their early music featured psychedelic and progressive rock elements with classical influences, characterised by organ and electric guitar instrumentation. Later, they shifted towards a more melodic rock sound in the late 1970s, incorporating hard rock and AOR styles with synthesizers. The band underwent several lineup changes and released their debut album "Sexy Boy?" in 1980 in a limited pressing. Their style during this period was melodic rock with a commercial edge. The group dissolved in 1984. Aqua’s discography reflects a transition from early psychedelic progressive rock to late 1970s commercial melodic rock, making their recordings of interest primarily to collectors and fans of archival progressive rock material. --- 3. AQUA was a South Korean six-member project girl group formed under KRAZY Entertainment. They debuted on November 17, 2018, with the single "Log In". The group was created by the gaming company Actoz Soft and is described as Korea’s first Esports girl group, promoting themselves both as gamers and idols. The members include Hyerim and Seungji from Limesoda, Haesol (a former PRODUCE 48 contestant), Sihyeon (a former contestant on PRODUCE 101 and MIXNINE), Hyeonju (a former MIXNINE contestant and member of OAHSIS), and Sua (a former PRODUCE 101 contestant and member of OAHSIS).
