About SPORTFREUNDE STILLER
Sportfreunde Stiller are a German indie rock band from Germering near Munich, Bavaria. The band were founded by Peter Brugger (guitar, vocals), Florian "Flo" Weber (drums), and Andi Erhard (bass). They initially planned to name themselves Bodden, after football player Olaf Bodden, before later choosing the name Stiller, taken from their former football manager at SV Germering, Hans Stiller. Under the name Stiller, the band played their first concerts in 1995. They later changed their name because another band held the rights to the name. The term Sportfreunde translates roughly as "friends in sports" and is also used in the names of sports clubs. In 1997, bassist Andi Erhard was replaced by Rüdiger "Rüde" Linhof. The band released their debut album "So wie einst Real Madrid" in 2000. The song "Independent" from the album "Die gute Seite" was featured in the video game "FIFA 2003". In 2006, the band released "'54, '74, '90, 2006", a fan anthem for the German national football team during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The song references West Germany’s World Cup victories in 1954, 1974, and 1990 and became a number one hit in Germany. After Germany lost in the semi-final against Italy on 4 July 2006, the song was reworked as "'54, '74, '90, 2010" in anticipation of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Sportfreunde Stiller were nominated five times for Best German Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards, in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2009. Their album "La Bum" was released on 3 August 2007 and reached number one in Germany. The single "Alles Roger", released on 20 July 2007, reached number 22 on the German charts. The album title is an anagram of the word "album". In early 2008, the album "La Bum" (bonus track edition) was added to the American iTunes Store. The song "'54, '74, '90, 2010" later appeared as downloadable content in the video game "Guitar Hero World Tour". In 2009, Sportfreunde Stiller became the sixth German band to record an album for the "MTV Unplugged" series. The album, titled "MTV Unplugged in New York", was recorded during a concert at Bavaria Film Studios in Munich and includes acoustic versions of earlier songs as well as cover versions and new material. In 2013, the band released the album "New York, Rio, Rosenheim". In 2016, their single "Das Geschenk" reached number one in Austria and also charted in Germany and Switzerland. In 2020, Florian Weber stated in an interview that the band were working on a new album following a break. On 6 May 2022, the band released the single "I’m Alright" from the album "Jeder nur ein X", which was scheduled for release on 11 November 2022.
