About JUPITER JONES

Jupiter Jones is a German rock band originating from the Eifel region. The band gained widespread recognition in Germany with the song "Still", which contributed to them receiving the Echo Pop award. The band was founded in autumn 2002 at a party in the Eifel. Its name is derived from the character Jupiter Jones, known in German as Justus Jonas, from the original English-language version of the book and radio play series "Three Investigators". The band’s lyrics are predominantly written in German. Jupiter Jones releases music through its own label, Mathildas und Titus Tonträger, named after characters from the "Three Investigators" series. In the year of its formation, the band produced its first demo, "Auf das Leben", which was made available for download. Jupiter Jones subsequently performed as an opening act for bands including Muff Potter, die Donots, and The (International) Noise Conspiracy. In November 2003, the band placed second in the Rockbuster Newcomer Contest of Rhineland-Palatinate, organised by the SWR radio station Dasding. Their first official concert took place in 2004 at the Southside Festival. The debut album "Raum um Raum" was released in October 2004, and its single "Reiss die Trauer aus den Büchern" reached first place in the Dasding newcomer programme Netzparade. The band’s second album, "Entweder geht diese scheussliche Tapete – oder ich", was released in 2007. In the same year, Jupiter Jones undertook a ten-day tour of Bulgaria in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut. In 2008, the band performed at a festival in Ankara in front of approximately 7,000 people and recorded an unplugged concert at the Capuchin monastery in Cochem, which was released as both a DVD and an album titled "…leise". In 2009, Jupiter Jones participated in the Volkswagen Sound Foundation funding programme and became part of the Sound Foundation Family. That same year, the band released its third studio album, "Holiday in Catatonia", which featured guest vocals by Jana Pallaske. In August 2010, Jupiter Jones signed a recording contract with Cumbia Berlin, a label associated with Sony, while Mathildas und Titus Tonträger remained involved. The band’s self-titled album "Jupiter Jones" was released on 25 February 2011 and included the single "Still". The song was released on CD on 4 March 2011, following earlier video releases on the band’s website, including an acoustic live performance broadcast by ARD. An official music video was also produced, and in April 2011 the band performed "Still" in an episode of the television series "Hand aufs Herz". The song became the most played German-language track on German radio in April 2011 and remained so for the remainder of the year. In May and June 2011, Jupiter Jones performed at events including the Schlossgrabenfest in Darmstadt and the Hurricane and Southside festivals. On 15 June 2011, the band performed "Immer für immer" live on "Sat.1-Frühstücksfernsehen", later appearing with the song on ZDFkultur and on Radio Bremen’s programme "Buten un Binnen". On 29 September 2011, Jupiter Jones represented Rhineland-Palatinate at the "Bundesvision Song Contest" with the song and finished in sixth place. A Dutch-language cover of "Still" by the band Bløf, titled "Zo stil", was released in the Netherlands on 5 October 2012 and reached number 14 in the Dutch charts. In October 2013, Jupiter Jones released its sixth studio album, "Das Gegenteil von Allem". The lead single, "Rennen + Stolpern", was released on 27 September 2013 and entered the charts in October. A tour planned for 2014 in support of the album was cancelled shortly before its start due to singer Nicholas Müller suffering from anxiety disorders. In May 2014, the band announced that it would continue with a new vocalist, introducing Svaen Lauer of the band Caracho as Müller’s replacement. In July 2014, the live album "Glory.Glory.Halleluyah" was released, featuring recordings made with former singer Nicholas Müller. The band also announced new material featuring Lauer as lead vocalist. Later in 2014, Jupiter Jones again represented Rhineland-Palatinate at the "Bundesvision Song Contest" with the song "Plötzlich hält die Welt an", finishing in second place. The band traditionally held annual summer and end-of-year concerts, typically performing summer shows at the ExHaus in Trier and winter concerts in Cologne venues such as the Gloria-Theater and the Live Music Hall. These concerts often featured emerging artists as supporting acts. In November 2017, Jupiter Jones announced its disbandment, though several farewell concerts were still performed. The band played its final festival appearance on 19 August 2018 at the Karben Open Air Festival, with its final concert taking place on 1 September 2018. Following the split, drummer Hont joined the black metal band Desaster, while Klaus Hoffman became a member of the indie rock band Trixsi. Former vocalist Nicholas Müller later performed with Tobias Schmitz in the indie pop project von Brücken from 2015 to 2019. In 2021, Jupiter Jones reunited. Since the reunion, Nicholas Müller and Sascha Eigner have been the only permanent members, performing live with accompanying musicians. On 29 January 2021, the band released "Überall waren Schatten", its first single since reforming. The album "Die Sonne ist ein Zwergstern", financed through crowdfunding, was released on 30 December 2022. In the same year as the reunion, the band publicly supported a petition advocating for the revival of Trier’s youth centre.
