There are at least eight music artists known by the name Arabesque: 1) Arabesque was a German disco group formed in 1977. The group's most recognized lineup included Sandra Ann Lauer (who joined in 1979), Jasmin Vetter, and Michaela Rose. Following their split in 1984, Vetter and Rose continued under the name "Rouge," while Sandra began a solo career that achieved international success. Arabesque gained popularity in Japan, selling over six million albums, and also had a following in the USSR. Their single "Take Me Don't Break Me" charted in the German Top 40, while "Marigot Bay" reached the German Top Ten. After the group disbanded, tracks such as "Ecstasy" and "Time to Say Goodbye" became popular in parts of Central, Southern, and Eastern Europe due to their similarity to the Italo-disco style, though they did not chart officially. These songs contributed to the spread of the Italo-disco sound in Japan, where it influenced the development of the "eurobeat" genre. On December 16, 2006, Arabesque (with Michaela Rose and new members Sabine Kaemper and Silke Brauner) performed at the Retro FM festival in Moscow. 2) Arabesque is a hip hop artist from Toronto, Ontario. Signed to the UK-based label Sin Nombre, with distribution through Universal, he released the album "The Frenzy Of Renown," which received critical attention. He was nominated for Rap Recording of the Year at the 2007 Juno Awards. His work has been covered by international press, and he has appeared on the cover of the English-language Middle Eastern magazine NOX. Arabesque has released multiple singles and received campus radio play. He has performed as a supporting act for artists including Raekwon, Little Brother, Zion I, Dilated Peoples, and Sean Paul. 3) Arabesque is a Dutch progressive metal band active since the mid-1990s. Their music blends rock, fusion, and progressive elements. Their debut album, "Beyond the Veil," was followed by "The Union" in 2002, which introduced two female vocalists and marked a stylistic shift. The band's sound is often described as more accessible than that of other progressive metal groups. 4) Arabesque was an indie pop band signed to Siesta Records. The group was led by Keith Girdler and Paul Stewart, former members of the Sarah Records band Blueboy.
