About Wies

There are at least two acts called Wies. 1. Wies, stylized as WIES, is a Dutch indie pop band from Amsterdam, fronted by Jeanne Rouwendaal. WIES makes indie pop / rock songs sung in Dutch, with use of electronics and beats. They won the 'Grote Prijs van Amsterdam' band battle in 2018, the nationwide 'Grote Prijs van Nederland' in 2019 and started releasing a steady stream of singles in late 2019. The band released three studio album thus far: Het is een WIES (2021), Alles Anders (2023) and AH! (2026). 2. Wies is Wies Peeters, a Dutch singer and songwriter from Breda, The Netherlands, influenced by singer-songwriters such as Lucinda Williams and Sheryl Crow but also by Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Wies and her backing band hooked up in early 2006 and bashed out the eleven songs that would become Wies’ début album: Delivery in a Fortnight was recorded, as you'd expect, in a fortnight and saw the light of day in 2008.
