About Welcome The Tourist
Welcome The Tourist were a Indie-pop band from Norwich, splitting in 2008. Combining apparent influences from Minus The Bear to Motion City Soundtrack, Hot Water Music to Genesis and adding a distinct passion for 80’s pop music, the four-piece soon became one of the most popular acts from the city. THE BEGINNING Alan Hiom was introduced to Dan Reynolds at Norwich City College where they both studied. Discovering that Dan played drums, Alan acquired his talents early on and on Dan's return from University attained his skills once more in further bands. Alan & Dan gained notable success in previous band saleontomorrow, playing alongside some impressive names such as My Awesome Compilation, Itch and Owen. Hiom & Reynolds became aware of bassist Stitch Richardson when saleontomorrow shared a tour with his previous band Brailing. When the opportunity arose for the new outfit that would later become Welcome The Tourist, Stitch was asked to have a practice and as the saying goes, the rest is history. WTT gigged as a three piece for a short time before bringing in the synthesizing services of Tom Booen. Tom (better known for his talents on the guitar) brought in an extra dimension to the band and along with the signature cowbell, completed the ensemble. The band split after wanting to go a different route musically. Three of the four (Hiom, Reynolds and Booen) went on to become Battlements (myspace.com/battlementsmusic), but this too ended after less than a year together. Hiom now plays in Darwin & The Dinosaur (myspace.com/darwinandthedinosaur), Reynolds now plays in Four Days In May (myspace.com/fourdaysinmay) as well as several others as a session drummer.
