About Wazoo

There is more than one artist named Wazoo: 1. In 1970, Wazoo was a Detroit -based experimental psychedelic rock outfit on Zig Zag Records. Their songs combined different styles of music, from heavy garage rock to bluesy westcoast, drifting into various tripped-out, funk, jazz, fusion elements with humorous/social comments. The structure, feeling and complexity can be compared to experimental Krautrock, while the group's basic sound is characterized by excessive fuzz guitar, Farfisa organ, vocals by Cleveland's “Bocky” and several additional instruments including: sax, harpsichord, cello, percussion, and bells. Assumed to have influenced the name of Frank Zappa's big band ensemble and 1972 album “The Grand Wazoo."
