About Versi
Versi & the Proles are five secondary school teachers from Cumbria. They teach a range of subjects including Drama, Citizenship, Geography and Art, and have been together for a year. After the school bell rings on a Friday afternoon they wind down from the stresses of the week by clattering around with guitars and drums in the Art department. The name "Versi & the Proles" derives from the George Orwell novel 1984. In the novel a machine, called the Versificator, produces all music and literature for the Proles. The Versificator stops party members from having to engage in creative thought and creates music for the lower classes whose main concerns are family, gossip, films, football, beer and the lottery. In the novel, "The proles remain human."
