About Trixter

Trixter is an American hard rock band formed in 1983 in Paramus, New Jersey. The band achieved commercial success in the early 1990s with singles such as "Give It to Me Good," which reached number 65 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990, and "One in a Million." Despite lineup changes and a period of inactivity in the late 1990s, Trixter has continued to perform and release music intermittently. Trixter was formed in June 1983 by Steve Brown and Doug "Dougie C." Cowie. The original lineup, which included drummer Mike Pane and later singer Pete Loran, underwent early changes when Pane was replaced by Mark "Gus" Scott and the band adopted the name Trixter. By 1986, the band had become active on the concert circuit, performing with groups such as Kix and Skid Row and attracting attention from record labels. In 1988, they began recording a debut album at Bear Tracks Studios in New York, but the project, originally titled "Just Having Fun," was not released. In November 1988, PJ Farley replaced Cowie on bass, and the band signed with MCA Records in May 1989. In September 1989, Trixter recorded their self-titled debut album with producer Bill Wray. Some tracks from the 1988 sessions, including "Ride the Whip" and "Only Young Once," were included. The album was released in May 1990, with "Line of Fire" promoted to rock radio. The band filmed a video for "Give It to Me Good," which received heavy rotation on MTV and reached number one on the Dial MTV Top Ten Video Countdown. Trixter toured nationally, opening for Stryper and Don Dokken, and subsequently for Poison and the Scorpions. They also recorded "One Mo Time" for the film "If Looks Could Kill," featuring Edgar Winter on saxophone. Their debut album was certified Gold, and singles such as "Give It to Me Good," "One in a Million," and "Surrender" achieved chart success and MTV airplay. The band also participated in the "Blood, Sweat & Beers" tour with Warrant and FireHouse. Trixter began work on their second album, Hear!, in early 1992 with producer James "Jimbo" Barton. Released in October 1992, the album was followed by a North American tour opening for Kiss and a headlining club tour called The "Hear Club for Men." Hear! performed well in Japan but received limited attention in the United States amid the rise of grunge, leading to the band being dropped by MCA Records. In 1994, Trixter released the Undercovers EP on Backstreet Records, consisting of cover songs. The band reunited in 2008 for the Give It to You Good tour, performing several dates including appearances at Rocklahoma and a hometown show in New Jersey. They released a live album, Alive in Japan, and a Best Of compilation. In 2012, Trixter released the studio album New Audio Machine. They continued performing internationally, including a headlining appearance at the Rockingham 2016 melodic and hard rock festival in Nottingham, England. Studio albums Trixter (1990) Hear!
