San Diego-based blues guitarist/vocalist Tomcat Courtney was born in Waco, Texas in 1929, where he grew up on the music of Lightnin' Hopkins and T-Bone Walker, both whom he knew personally. Tomcat is a stunning vocalist and guitarist with a beautiful down-home approach to the blues. He relocated to California in the 1960s, first moving to Los Angeles; and then, in the early 1970s, to San Diego, where he has lived since. He has has become a prominent elder statesman of the San Diego blues community. His release, "Downsville Blues" on Blue Witch Records, establishes him as a national and international artist. Tomcat Courtney Nominated For Independent Music Award! Beth Lipham of Blue Witch Records confirmed that Tomcat Courtney/Downsville Blues has been nominated for an Independent Music Award for best blues CD! Tomcat is now 79 years old, and possesses one of the greatest voices in down home blues.
