About Thompson Twins

Thompson Twins were an English pop band formed in 1977 in Sheffield. They began as a new wave group and later adopted a more mainstream pop style, achieving significant popularity during the early and mid-1980s with several hits in the United Kingdom, the United States, and internationally. In 1993, the group changed its name to Babble to reflect a shift from pop to dub-influenced chill-out music and continued under that name until 1996, when they disbanded. The band's name was inspired by the characters Thomson and Thompson, two detectives in the English-language version of The Adventures of Tintin. Throughout their career, the band had up to seven members at different times, with their most recognized line-up being a trio from 1982 to 1986. Thompson Twins became part of the US music scene during the Second British Invasion and performed at Live Aid in Philadelphia in 1985, where they were joined on stage by Madonna.
