About The Sons Of Silence

Daniel Mudford, Pete Woodhead and Joe Gardiner were invited by Andrew Hulme to play live with O Yuki Conjugate. Performing and recording gave them a moment of confidence long enough to go out with their own ideas and somehow, there was a friendly 'coup' at the same time as OYC activites slowed down to Kraftwerkian-speed. Their first inspiration was the idea of Zoviet*France going to a nightclub. Their first release was "O Yuki Conjugate + The Sons of Silence=SPOKE" - a live document of music made with bicycles and electronics, still regarded very fondly by the band, albeit with a slightly rueful sense of not being able to continue combining abstract oddness and more popular idioms so starkly. After a succession of highl-regarded/critically acclaimed releases on the Leaf Label, the band have spent the last few years in the grip of a depressive inertia and frustration at not being able to chuck out the wide variety of musics they love making to a public.
