So, there was this guy. He worked very hard at playing guitar, and got pretty good at it. Not one of the greats, but not too bad. He made a lot of cool music with a lot of cool people in a lot of cool places. One day, he decided that instead of playing music written by other people, he wanted to put some art into the world. So, he wrote some songs. He wanted to try to play his songs in front of people. He asked a talented bass player if he was willing to drive long distances to play to few people for very little money. To his surprise, the bass player agreed. They got some friends to play with them, and started making music at parties, biker bars, small festivals, and anywhere else they could get a gig. One time, a drummer playing with them brought his wife, and said she knew the background vocals for some songs by The Band. They brought her up to sing, and it was true; she did know those parts, and a whole lot more, too. And, she sang them very well. They asked her to join the group. As they continued to play, many friends found their way to the stage to help with keyboards, drums, and other instruments. Eventually, they made a record of their original songs with some of these same friends. Not very many people bought the record, but those that did seemed to like it. They made a second record a few years later, with similar results. They still play music as often as they can. Sometimes you’ll hear a song of theirs on the radio, or see that they are performing somewhere in the Texas Hill Country. They may disappear for a while, but always seem to come back stronger than they were before.
