About The Rainbow Press
The Rainbow Press was formed in the summer of 1968 by six college students, all from the suburbs of New York City. Marc Ellis and Bill Yergin (as pictured) were high school classmates and Joe Groff, Larry Milton, Dave Troup and Charlie Osborne also knew each other in high school. They formed, under the original name of the Continental Divide, as a summer thing before going back to their various colleges again. However, halfway through the summer, they were signed by Audio Fidelity records on their Mr. G label. Changing their name to the Rainbow Press, they recorded their album, "There's a War On" in a 4 track recording studio above Radio City Music Hall in New York. Released in the Fall of 1968, the album received critical industry "picks" for the album and the single "There's a War On", enough that Mr. G requested a new LP as soon as possible. The second LP "Sunday Funnies" was recorded during Christmas vacation at the 8 track studio A&R in NYC. It was released in the Spring of 1969, with the release of the single "Great White Whale". The Rainbow Press was truly a studio band, never going on the road to perform as the Rainbow Press. After all, they all were in college and all continued that. Today, Marc and Larry are still in the music industry, Dave uses his musical abilities in his career and Bill plays in his spare time in a blues band.
