About The Minks

There are at least two artists named The Minks. 1) The Minks are a four piece American rock band from Nashville, Tennessee, United States led by frontwoman Nikki Barber. Nikki Barber formed The Minks in 2016, after moving to Nashville from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Nikki recruited longtime friend and former bandmate from the rock-duo Static Trees, Dylan Whitlow (bass), now with DeeOhGee, as well as Ron Gallo (guitar) to form The Minks. Guitar Girl magazine describes the band as “hover[ing] in the space of psyche-blues and pure rock with Barber’s vocals being compared to Patti Smith and Bonnie Raitt.” 2) One of Calgary's youngest and freshest bands, The Minks formed at the beginning of the new millenium and lived for a brief but memorable time. The band experienced great popularity in the all-ages scene. The trio of Pascal Massinon on bass, Adrian Hamfelt on guitar and vocals, and Shawn Sekiya on Drums rocked the scene with music that has been compared to early Thrush Hermit and Weezer. The Minks released two albums together before going out into the real world. Their first EP, The War on Sadness was released in 2001 followed shortly by a full length CD, Van Gundy released in 2002. Van Gundy topped local campus radio station charts and made national top 50. Not long after the summer release the band played their last show.
