The Guillotines

About The Guillotines

English rock band. Dirty. There you have it, one word to sum up The Guillotines. Everything about this band is downright dirty, from the guitars, to the sax, to the vocals. The maniacal rasp of the lead singer paints the picture that while en route to a Cannibal Corpse gig, he stopped for a beer in an underground indie bar and never left. Consequently, the band melds the most commercially friendly aspects of metal into the pop sensibilities of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or the Zutons. Admittedly, the sax player from the Guillotines is a little less foxy than that of the Zutons (being a big, sweaty man) but instead of glamour, brings his fantastically growly tenor sound and bags of personality to the mix. Single 'Wandering' calls to mind early blues men like Muddy Waters or Howlin' Wolf, filtered through heavy distortion, feedback and guitar squeals. However, beneath the grimy veneer, it is in fact a perfectly constructed pop song and one crying out to be experienced live. Driven relentlessly onwards by their tribal beat, exciting and invigorating, the Guillotines do metal-blues for the indie-kids."
