About Stojan Krstic
This gypsy brass orchestra of eight musicians comes from Vladicin Ham, in South Serbia, the homeland of the gypsy music tradition (fanfare). The improvisation and the musical liberty of gypsy music define the history of the place and its people and translate their will for freedom. “Here, we are born with the “fanfare”, we get married with the “fanfare, we die with the “fanfare’”‘, says Stojan Krstic-Tane, who becomes chef of the orchestra in 1980, succeeding his father from whom he also inherited his talent and knowledge. During the same year, he appears for the first time at the famous Guča Festival and is rewarded by the jury with the recording of his first album. In 1986, he wins the Prize of the “First trumpet” on the Surdulica Festival. In 1987 and 1998, the orchestra is rewarded by the Radio Beograd for the best interpretation and preservation of traditional music of South Serbia. In 1988, they win the 1st Prize of the the Surdulica Festival, continuing in 1989 with Stojan as “Best trumpet” of the Godzin Han Festival and in 1992 and 1993 as “Best trumpet” of the Vladicin Han Festival. Finally, in 1996, as well as in 2001, Stojan Krstic-Tane’s gypsy brass orchestra was named “Best orchestra” of the Guča National Festival. In 2004, the band received the 1st distinction of the International Jury of the Surdulica Festival. In 2007, they participated with great success at the Martigues Festival in France, as well as at the Gypsy music and Balkan festival at Limans. In 2008, Stojan is for one more time the “Best trumpet” of the Surdulica Festival. They have performed in Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Greece, and France.
