Stūrī Zēvele is a Latvian alternative indie pop band known for its melodic, atmospheric sound and the integration of classic and contemporary Latvian poetry into its songwriting. Formed in 2006 in Kuldīga, Latvia, the group has evolved from a grassroots project at the Zabadaks non-commercial culture center into a staple of the Rīga independent music scene. The band's musical identity is defined by a blend of bedroom pop aesthetics, indie rock, and folk-inflected arrangements featuring flutes and dual vocal harmonies. Their lyrics frequently adapt the works of celebrated poets such as Klāvs Elsbergs, Kārlis Vērdiņš, and Ingmāra Balode, lending a literary depth to their compositions. The band is recognized for its conceptually linked studio albums, which follow the sequence of daily greetings: Labrīt! (2014), their debut album, which established their presence in the Latvian indie scene with tracks like Tauriņi; Labdien (2016), a critically acclaimed follow-up that earned a nomination for the Austra Award (Latvia's equivalent to the Mercury Prize); Labvakar (2020), released under the Naba Music label, this record showcased a more mature, polished sound while maintaining their signature introspective tone; and Arlabunakti (2025), the final chapter of the daily greeting cycle, released as a comprehensive visual album featuring music videos for every track. Stūrī Zēvele remains a regular fixture at major Latvian music festivals, including Laba Daba and Positivus, and continues to be a prominent voice in the Baltic alternative music landscape.
